Forms of Hosting Services
A hosting solution applies to depositing and/or sharing given content on a hosting server managed by a hosting company.
There are different kinds of hosting services utilized for various purposes, so let's have a glance at them. Thus, you can elect what you want, based on whether you desire to create a blog, e-mail address accounts, or to share files with mates and associates.
- File hosting: a service provided by particular web hosts, which lets you share large files. These could be disk images, films, audio files, archives, etc. This solution is also known as file storage, and its sole goal is to share files, since it does not support web page uploading. The moment the files are uploaded, you will either get an accidentally created download link for each of them, or you will be able to view an index of all the files in a directory, but you will not be able to view .html or .php web site files in your browser. Free file storage plans are often supported by exhibiting advertisements by the download links, while a timer forces you to wait for a given interval of time to observe them. A single file can be downloaded with limited speed. If you purchase a paid file storage account, there are no limits as to how many files you can upload/download straight away, and also there is no limitation as far as the download speed and the file size are concerned.
At present, with the help of the cPanel web hosting vendors, "file hosting" is being renamed to the more modern "cloud hosting". This is a completely imprecise interpretation of the actual meaning of "cloud hosting". A real cloud web hosting platform would apportion the tasks at hand between individual sets of web hosting servers in a cluster, which are dedicated to serving different hosting services (electronic mail, disk storage, statistics, DNS, databases, hosting Control Panel, and so on.) So, the file hosting solution is merely a brand of a data storage hosting service, not a cloud hosting one. It's not even close.
- Image hosting: close to file hosting; specific firms offer a hosting solution for pictures only. This hosting type is good if you desire to share an enormous number of pictures with mates or colleagues since the service is generally free of charge. You will obtain a random link for every pic or album and you can then share this link. As with the file hosting service, .html and .php files are not supported, so the solution cannot be used for websites.
- E-mail hosting: a service devoted to administering your mailbox accounts. Some suppliers provide website hosting services for web sites, but do not supply an e-mail hosting service. If you would like to get an email address with your domain but do not want to keep a website, then the email hosting solution is what you want. You can create e-mailbox accounts and administer them, but there will be no web service for the domain. The e-mail hosting service includes incoming POP/IMAP and outgoing SMTP servers.
- Video hosting: this solution allows you to upload and share video clips. You can either share a link to a certain video file, or you can embed the video in your site that is hosted elsewhere. The advantage of using this method in lieu of uploading the video in a hosting account is that the video produces a certain amount of CPU load, so with a few videos and a few hundred viewers, you may have a problem with your site hosting supplies. Embedding the video file will allow you to manage as many video files as you want without hassling about system reserves.
- Web site hosting: this is the service that you need if you want to run a web site. To a certain extent, it consists of all of the aforementioned hosting categories since, along with your sites, you can also host pictures and files, you can keep databases and email addresses, upload videos, etc. At 'ExclusiveHosting', for example, you can have a glance at shared and dedicated hosting packages that permit you to get all of the abovementioned solutions in one single place. There may be limitations depending on the sort of hosting service that you've settled on - a free web hosting account, a paid web space hosting plan, a VPS hosting server or a dedicated server. Based on that, your site hosting plan may be better or worse juxtaposed to the normal e-mail/file/video/image hosting plans that are purposed for specific content exclusively.
